Join the Team Thanks for the interest in joining! Please read through the description for the position you'd like, and follow the instructions for applying. Translators Need: We're always accepting translators. If we need a translator for a current project, we'll advertise for one on the updates page. We also have a fairly large library of manga titles we'd like to scanlate one day that new translators can choose from. Description: We accept translators who can translate with or without furigana. Experience is not necessary. We're fairly loose with deadlines; two weeks for a normal-sized chapter would be wonderful, but up to a month is fine. If you get ahead of the editor, you have the choice of taking on another project, if you'd like. English fluency isn't required, but the translations must be clearly understandable. To Apply: Please take our 2-page Japanese translator test and email it to us. Instructions are included in the zip file. Let us know if you have a project you'd like to do, or anything you think we should know about you. Cleaners Need: Needed. Description: Cleaners are required to level, rotate, & crop raws. This includes leveling out gutter shadows, when applicable. Cleaners do not delete Japanese text or redraw images. Typical deadlines for cleaners are a week per normal sized chapter; this job requires Photoshop. To Apply: Please take the cleaner test and send it in. Follow the instructions provided in the zip file. Editors Need: We'll always take applications, since editor turnover is high. Unless we've posted that we need editors on the updates page, there may not be a project available at all times. Description: Editors are required to clean, level, rotate, crop, delete Japanese text, redraw anything needed redrawing, typeset the English script, and add in English SFXs. It's a time-consuming job, and should only really be attempted by those with plenty of free time. Photoshop is required for our editors. If you'd like to learn how to edit, head over to The Idiot's Guide to Editing Manga for detailed tutorials on all aspects of editing. To Apply: Please take the 2-page test at the end of the guide, and follow the submission instructions on that page. Scanners Need: We're always open to scanners offering us new projects. If you'd like to help scan a current project, chances are we'll accept your help. Description: We don't require scanners to debind their books, but we expect you to press them flat enough so that the image does not curve near the gutter (this usually requires you to crease the spine). Scans need to be at 300dpi in grayscale; colored scans should be scanned at a higher dpi (500 or 600) and resized down and saved at a normal resolution. We recommend you save the scans as jpgs (80% quality, "very high"), but any other high quality format (png, bmp) is fine as well. Scanners do not need to clean, level, or otherwise do anything to the raw scans. Note: We very rarely use public raws, so please do not offer us public raws to do a project from. To Apply: Please email us a sample of the manga you're offering, along with any information you have about it (length, etc). Note that we will not do licensed series or series another group is doing. If you send us a LQ sample of the manga, please include a HQ sample of something you've scanned so we can see your skills. For first-time scanners, we can offer suggestions to improve your scans. Proofreaders Need: Not needed. Description: Proofreaders must be good Japanese translators fluent in English, who are able to go through other scripts and fix any mistakes. Note that because these this job is the final check on the quality of our scripts, I'm extremely picky about who gets the job. Translators who don't have enough time to do entire chapters, but still want to help, would be best suited for this job. To Apply: Please take the Japanese translator test and email it to us; please tell us what your proficiency in Japanese and English is. Quality Checkers Need: Needed. Description: Quality Checkers must know their way around photoshop and be able to go through edited files (psds) and check for excess dirt, typos/grammar mistakes, make sure text is centered, and touch up clones/redraws as needed. Chapters should be completed within a week, and QCers should be willing to work on at least one entire genre (shounen, shoujo, shounen-ai) as opposed to just a specific project. To Apply: Email me with any relevent experience (if any), what genres you'd be willing to work on, and the QC test. There is a guide attached to the QC test with detailed instructions on what QCers need to look for. |
